HAPPY Hour Workshops
What are the HAPPY Hour workshops?
The HAPPY Hour workshops, which were initially offered only once a month, have grown tremendously in popularity and are now offered on an almost weekly basis during the academic year. The workshops, which are usually 1-1 ½ hours long, are typically scheduled for late afternoon, but are scheduled per the presenters’ preferences. For this academic year’s schedule, please refer to the HAPPY Hour workshop schedule on this website.
The presenters are university faculty and PreK-12 personnel who have expertise in areas of interest to students aspiring to become educators. The workshops, which are highly interactive, have been very well-received by students. Students have appreciated the additional preparation they receive to meet the increasing demands of the teaching profession. Students also have expressed gratitude for the workshop handouts and other resources that they can add to their ever-growing resource files. Finally, the experiences afforded them by the workshops can be added to their resumes and professional portfolios.
Past workshop topics have included: (a) tips for interviewing for a teaching position, (b) classroom management strategies, (c) reading strategies, (d) incorporating music into the curriculum, (e) roles of guidance counselors, (f) survival tips for the first day of teaching and beyond, (g) turning disposables into bulletin board art, (h) grouping strategies, (i) cognitive processing strategies, etc.
How do I register for the HAPPY Hour workshops?
Unless otherwise specified, no pre-registration is required; simply show up, learn, have fun, and gain experience to add to your resumes, professional portfolios, and teaching credentials.
