Richard T. Sloane was born and raised in New York City, where he attended public schools. Mr. Sloane graduated from Boston University, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in American History and Civilization. Upon graduation he attended the Navy's Officer Candidate School in Newport, Rhode Island, and was commissioned as an Ensign in November, 1964. During a naval career spanning 27 years, Mr. Sloane enjoyed assignments at sea and ashore, including command of the USS Santa Barbara, an ammunition ship located in Charleston, South Carolina, and Service School Command, an education and training activity at the Orlando Naval Training Center. He is a graduate of the Naval War College. Mr. Sloane is a combat veteran of service in Vietnam. Upon completion of his military service, Mr. Sloane took the position of Executive Director, USO Council of Central Florida, responsible for welfare, recreation, and entertainment programs for members of the Armed Forces. Subsequently, he was Executive Director of the Greater Oviedo Chamber of Commerce. In 1999 Mr. Sloane assumed his present position as Director, Community and College Relations for the College of Education at the University of Central Florida. Mr. Sloane is married to the former Margaret McKenna of Cranston, Rhode Island. The Sloanes have two daughters, Sandra and Jennifer, both residing in Central Florida.
