Dr. Wienke completed his BS in Elementary Education and Special Education at the State University College at Buffalo. In the city of North Tonawanda he taught adolescent students requiring special education services. His doctoral study was completed at the University of Northern Colorado with a major in Special Education and a minor in research methodology. His post-doctoral study was completed at the University of California at Santa Barbara. He has taught at San Jose State University and Bowling Green State University, and chaired the Department of Special Education at West Virginia University before coming to the University of Central Florida in 1998 to chair the Department Child, Family & Community Sciences until May 2005. During his career he has guided the development of curricula and programs to prepare special educators to serve students from infancy through adulthood. He has also prepared programs to prepare students at the doctoral level in special education. Over the years he has authored and/or co-authored grants which support programs at each of these levels. Dr. Wienke is currently a Professor in the Department of Child, Family and Community Sciences.
