Project Lead - Leadership in Exceptional Education Accenting Diversity
Project LEAD is a highly specialized doctoral program leading to a Ph.D. in Education-Exceptional Education. It is a federal project funded by the U.S. Office of Special Education Programs through UCF's Department of Child, Family and Community Sciences. The project is committed to the recruitment, retention and preparation of special education teacher educator/scholars who are members of traditionally underrepresented groups, including minorities and persons with disabilities.
The goal of Project LEAD is to prepare highly competent doctoral level professionals who will assume leadership positions in preparing teachers and other instructional/training personnel in the provision of special education for individuals with disabilities. These professionals will be prepared to conduct research, implement best practices based on research, and evaluate new programs and projects that serve special education students. Upon completion of their program of studies, these special education leaders will be both experienced with and qualified to assume positions in colleges and universities that have as their main focus the preparation of general and special educators. They will also be qualified for positions in local education agencies, state education agencies, and private agencies where special education teacher educator/scholars are needed.
